Raul Castro to Deliver Main Speech at
National Rebellion Day Celebration

First Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Army
General Raul Castro Ruz, will make the main speech at the celebration
for the day of national rebellion on Thursday, July 26, to take place
at 7:30 am at the Major General Ignacio Agramonte Revolution Square, in
the eastern Cuban province of Camaguey.

The celebration commemorates the 54th anniversary of the heroic attacks
on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes barracks by revolutionary
forces that intended to overthrow Fulgencio Batista’s dictatorship at
the time.

More than 100,000 people from Camaguey will participate in the event,
together with several of the figures directly involved in those
historic attacks and some of the Cuban revolutionaries who returned to
Cuba from Mexico on board the Granma yacht to fight Batista’s tyranny
in 1956. Others participating will include party leaders, government
and state officials, members of the Young Communist League, other
grassroots organizations and members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces
(the Cuban Army) and the Ministry of the Interior (MININT).

At the celebration, Camaguey will be awarded the flag that is
traditionally given to the province honored by being named the main
site for the commemoration. In addition, the provinces of Havana City,
Granma and Villa Clara will also receive recognition for the efforts
made this year.

National television and radio networks, Cubavision International and
Radio Havana Cuba will broadcast this important ceremony.
