The New York Times Publishes Article on Cuban Five

Havana, August 6 (acn) The New York Times on Sunday published an
article dealing with the case of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters
unjustly held in US prisons after being condemned to harsh and cruel
sentences in a biased and unfair trial in Miami.

The article includes important aspects of the case such as the trial in
which they were sentenced, the appeals, the upcoming oral hearing on
August 20 and the prestige of the Cuban Five - as they are
internationally known - on the island, where they are regarded as
heroes.

Since September 12, 1998, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo
Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Rene Gonzalez are in prison for having
infiltrated anti-Cuba terrorist groups in Miami and passing on
information to the Cuban government about their terrorist plans against
the people on the island.

The New York Times also reflects the hostility of the US government,
which has denied visas to Adriana Perez and Olga Salanueva, wives of
Gerardo and René, respectively, who have not been able to visit their
husbands in prison.

The US newspaper compares the long imprisonment of the Cuban Five with
the release of international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, which
shows the double standard of Washington's anti-terrorist speech.
