Cuba Paves the Way for Municipal Elections

Havana, Aug 6 (acn) Cuba is gearing up for the upcoming municipal 
elections, as all members of district's electoral commissions completed 
training seminar prior to the voting process.

In statements to the Juventud Rebelde newspaper, Tomas Amaran Diaz, 
secretary of the National Electoral Commission, said the assemblies for 
the nomination of candidates are scheduled to take place from September 
1 through 26.

Amaran Diaz highlighted the importance members of the electoral 
commissions in the organization of the more than 50,000 nomination 
assemblies.

He explained that the more than 76,000 citizens involved in the 
commissions received detailed information about the Cuban Electoral Law 
and all aspects related to voter registration, the nomination process 
and the principles and ethical norms of the Cuban electoral process.

The official assured that the conditions for the successful realization 
of the elections have been created.

In addition, Gisela Bell Heredia, also with the National Electoral 
Commission, said the group is working on the drawing of the 
complementary rules for the general elections.

She said the first stage of the process is expected to conclude on 
October 21 with the election of the delegates to the municipal 
assemblies.
