Venezuela to Host PETROCARIBE Summit This Week

Havana, August 7 (acn) The third Summit of PETROCARIBE, an initiative
of energy cooperation promoted by Venezuela, will take place on August
11th at the headquarters of the Venezuelan Ministry of Energy and the
Petróleos de Venezuela company (PDVSA) in Caracas.

According to Prensa Latina news agency, representatives from 14
countries will attend the meeting.

Thus far, the countries that have joined the group are Cuba, Antigua,
Barbuda, the Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica,
Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent
and the Grenadines and Surinam.

According to a communiqué released by PDVSA, the event will include a
meeting of experts and a conference of Energy ministries to assess the
march of the projects agreed upon and other activities.

The meeting is regarded by experts as an excellent opportunity to
analyze the current situation of the world energy markets and their
impact on oil importing countries.

Precisely, PETROCARIBE aims at eliminating asymmetries in the nations'
access to energy resources using a fair, favorable and equitable model
of exchange.

Since its foundation, PETROCARIBE has facilitated the creation of joint
associations by some of these countries to work in the improvement of
the infrastructure for the storage and distribution of oil and its
derivatives.
