Cuba Offers Solid Treatment, Rehab for Drug Addiction

Havana, Aug 9 (acn) Cuba has created a solid mechanism for the 
treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts, even though the world 
scourge has a low impact on the island when compared with other
countries.

Dr. Ricardo Gonzalez Menendez, president of the National Medical Ethics 
Commission, told Granma that addicts can receive assistance in any 
family doctor's office or mental health community center.

Likewise, the doctor commented on the Confidential Anti-drug Line as a 
very effective mechanism to assist any person facing addiction 
problems. He highlighted the fact that the caller is not required to 
give their name to receive help.

Dr. Gonzalez highlighted the professional ethics of all health experts 
and technicians in Cuba, especially those involved with addiction 
treatment, noting that they respect the confidentiality of the patients.
