Media Headlines Fidel Castro Birthday
Caracas, Aug 13 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Fidel Castro's 81st
birthday was news Monday in Venezuelan, Mexican, Argentinean and
Bolivian media.
In Venezuela, a release by the Francisco de Miranda Front was published
in several dailies and described the Cuban president as "a bastion of
liberty, an example of justice, a factor of unity in the peoples'
integration, a man in the vanguard of the struggle to save humankind."
Other Venezuelan media, including TV and radio stations, recalled that
Fidel Castro has survived over 600 attempts against his life and a US
blockade imposed on his country for over 40 years.
In Mexico, the major news programs and dailies, including La Jornada,
El Financiero, La Cronica and Milenio referred to activities organized
in Cuba to celebrate his birthday.
Argentine media stressed his journalistic work during his recovery,
with nearly 40 articles on national and international issues published
by Cuban media since March, under the generic title "The
Commander-in-Chief's Reflections".
Fidel Castro had intestinal surgery in July 2006 which obliged him to
pass his responsibilities on to Vice President Raul Castro.
