Vietnamese Help Agent Orange Victims
Hanoi, Aug 13 (Prensa Latina) Vietnamese organizations and institutions
have collected over $75,000 to help agent orange victims in activities
that included a musical gala in Hanoi, to mark the Day of Agent Orange
Victims on Friday 10, local dailies reported on Monday.
The Vietnamese Association of Agent Orange Victims, the Television
Vietnam magazine and Hanoi-based Thang Long Cultural Center, organized
the concert attended by recently-elected Vice President Nguyen Thi
Doan, who called on national and international entities to support the
association's demand in US courts.
The victims' association demands justice for its members and urges the
United States to officially recognize the serious problem generated by
dioxine, used in chemical bombings in 1961-1971 of extensive areas in
Vietnam.
Although a US federal court invalidated the lawsuit in 2005, the
association, supported by the US War Veterans Association, is in the
process of appeal.
Scientists at Columbia University determined that about 100 million
liters of toxic substances were dropped over Vietnam by the US, and the
dioxine content was twice as much as was informed.
