Afghans Release Two South Korean Hostages
Kabul, Aug 13 (Prensa Latina) Afghan insurgents released two South
Korean female hostages on Monday in the southern city of Ghazny, where
they received emergency medical care, Regional Chief Haji Zahir
confirmed.
Kim Gina, 32, and Kim Kyungja, 37, were abducted, along with another 21
Koreans, on July 19, after which the government and the Islamic
movement negotiated.
The two hostages were freed unconditionally, because they were very
sick, local television reported on Monday.
Meanwhile, Afghan authorities demanded that the rest of the group be
released as well.
The hostage takers, however, stressed that they have no intentions to
meet that demand, unless Kabul accepts to exchange the hostage for
Taliban prisoners.
The Afghan government, headed by Prime Minister Hamid Karzai has
refused to yield to pressure from the Talibans, who have already
executed two hostages.
