Cuba Advocates Latin American Integration

Havana, August 31 (acn) Cuba again advocated Latin American integration
for the construction of socialism in the region during an international
seminar in Sao Paulo, Brazil, prior to the Third Congress of the
Workers' Party of that South American nation.

The Cuban representative in the meeting, Sergio Cervantes, of the Cuban
Communist Party, said that Latin American integration is vital because
it allows the regional progressive processes not be isolated events.

During his speech, Cervantes noted that, if this integration had
existed 47 years ago, the United States could have not imposed its
criminal blockade against Cuba after the first socialist experience in
the continent began on the island.

According to Prensa Latina news agency, more than 100 guests from 60
political organizations from 31 countries are participating in the
seminar, whose slogan was 'Challenges of Latin American Leftist and
Progressive Governments', and in which participants discuss about the
real political situation of the countries in the continent.

Discussions are focused on the relations between parties and social
movements, ways to face neoliberal policies and alternatives to replace
the neoliberal economic model.

Invited to the meeting are party delegations from several countries
such as Germany, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, China, Colombia, North
Korea, Cuba, El Salvador, Spain, United States, France, Guatemala,
Haiti, Honduras and Italy.

Also attending the event are delegations from Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua,
Palestine, Panama, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Portugal, United Kingdom,
Dominican Republic, the Democratic Saharahui Arab Republic, Syria,
Sweden, Uruguay and Vietnam.
