US Bared in Iraq War Film in Venice
Venice, Aug 31 (Prensa Latina) The horrors committed by US troops in
Iraq came to light Friday at the Venice Film Festiva, through the
unforgiving lens of US filmmaker Brian De Palma in "Redacted."
"Redacted" is based on Iraq war material taken from Arabian Internet
pages and denounces the damage left in, what De Palma told journalists,
was a foolish war that he compared to the horrors committed in Vietnam
18 years ago.
The film, which has as its core the rape of an Iraqi teenager by US
soldiers in March 2006 and the later murder of her and her family, also
questions media manipulation.
"Redacted" is a favorite to win the Golden Lion in the Festival
audiences say, if the jury is not blinded by experimental films, or any
others made to attract huge audiences.
The other US film attracting attention is Tony Gilroy's "Michael
Clayton," on the sordid corruption in corporations, a story of a law
firm representing a chemical corporation producing dangerous drugs.
