Eighth Session of Cuba-Mali Joint Intergovernmental Commission Begins

Havana, Sept 11 (acn) The eighth session of the Cuba-Mali Joint 
Intergovernmental Commission begins on Tuesday in Havana with visiting 
Foreign Minister Moctar Ouane presiding over the delegation from the 
African nation.

Both countries have maintained steady and successful cooperation 
relations over the last years in the fields of sports, health, 
education and culture. On this occasion, one of the main goals is to 
expand the bilateral cooperation to areas such as agriculture, tourism 
and energy.

Also on Tuesday, the Malian top diplomat, who arrived on the island on 
Monday at the invitation of his Cuban counterpart Felipe Perez Roque, 
will tour places of scientific and historic interest in Havana.

Cuba and Mali established diplomatic relations on December 30, 1960. 
Today, under the Integral Health Plan sign by the governments of both 
nations, more than 90 health professionals from the island make their 
contribution in the African country.

Also, as of the 2000-2001 school year, more than 260 Malian students 
had graduated from technical and university courses on the Caribbean 
island.
