Cuba Candidate Lists Posted Today

Havana, Sep 18 (Prensa Latina) The electoral rolls for October
elections will be published Tuesday throughout the island, as a prior
step to the renovation of the Peoples' Power municipal assemblies.

Any Cuban with the right to vote can correct as of today any mistakes,
changes or omissions in these registers.

According to sources from the National Electoral Commission, these
lists will be published in electoral constituencies, so citizens can
revise them.

Those grass-roots bodies must receive any voters' complaint, while
their members will visit houses to check accuracy of information in
these lists.

In Cuba, people over 16 years old with permanent residence have the
right to vote, except the mentally ill or those serving prison
sentences, even when on parole.

On October 21, the Peoples' Power municipal assemblies must be renewed,
and a runoff election is expected October 28, for candidates who fail
to get over 50 percent of the votes.

The date for the polls to choose provincial delegates and deputies for
the National Assembly of People's Power for a five-year term is yet to
be defined.
