President Eduardo Dos Santos Expected in Cuba Today
Angola Press Agency (Luanda)
The Angolan Head of State, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, is due to arrive
this Thursday afternoon in Cuba for a three-day visit, during which he
is to sign various co-operation accords and pay visits to historical
sites, Angop has learnt.
The two countries will also sign agreements in the fields of public
works and higher education, as well as draft a complementary protocol
to the one signed in 1976, which outlines the general understandings
and creates a the joint commission between the two countries.
Angolan experts already arrived in Cuba some days ago, like the Public
Works minister, Higino Carneiro, who travelled to that country two days
before the Head of State.
In Cuba, President Jose Eduardo dos Santos will pay homage to Cuban
soldiers who died in Angola and may also meet war veterans.
Cuba was one of the great allies of the Angolan government during the
cold war with its military presence that ended following the New York
Accords, which outlined the ceasing of aggressions by the then South
African apartheid regime against Angola, the subsequent independence of
Namibia and the abolition of apartheid.
