"CIA: Hands off CUBA"
The Hamilton Cuba Friendship Association presents:
CIA: Hands off CUBA
A lecture & discussion featuring William Sloan, Fabio di Celmo
Committee for 5 (Montreal)
Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 6:30pm to 8:30pm,
Health Science Building,
Ewart Angus Hall Room 1A4
McMaster University,
Hamilton, Ont.
This event will provide basic facts on the history of USA
destabilization and aggressive activities against the Cuban people and
government within the island. For example, through the CIA, the USA has
organized bombings of tourist sites, such as major hotels.
Other forms of aggression include chemical warfare, infecting Cuban
crops and livestock with lethal agents. In providing this information,
we anticipate that participants will gain a greater context to
understand Cuban-USA relations.
About our Speaker:
William Sloan is a member of the Fabio di Celmo Committee for the 5
(Montreal). He is a Quebec lawyer and President of the Canadian Section
of the American Association of Jurists.
About the Fabio di Celmo Committee for the 5:
The FCC5's was created in commemoration of the Montreal resident and
Italian citizen Fabio di Celmo. Mr. di Celmo was killed in Cuba in 1997
by a bomb that exploded in the Hotel Copacabana in Havana.
This incident was part of a series of terrorist attacks in Cuba
targeting tourist areas, during the 1990s, which are linked to the
notorious US mercenaries, Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch. In fact,
Posada Carriles admitted to the New York Times in July 1998 that he
paid mercenaries to plant bombs in Cuban hotels.
At the time of its founding, Livio di Celmo, brother of Fabio, stated,
"I am very proud that my brother's name has been chosen to help raise
public awareness in Quebec about the case of the Cuban 5.
The terrorism of the CIA (and those protected by the CIA) against Cuba
is no more acceptable than the terrorism of Ben Laden. Canadians need
to know that, at several kilometres from our borders, the Bush
government is imprisoning anti-terrorist agents and protecting infamous
terrorists such as Luis Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosh."
The goal of the The Fabio di Celmo Committee for the 5 is to publicize
the story of these political prisoners -- Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon
Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and René Gonzalez -- who
have been unjustly held in US jails since September 1998. The Committee
wants to expose the double- speak of the Bush administration in its
"war on terrorism".
The 5 had infiltrated groups working, within the US, to plan and carry
out terrorist attacks aimed against Cuba. The five reported back the
information they uncovered to the Cuban government who, in return,
advised the US government so they could put a stop to the criminal
activities being prepared. However, instead of arresting the plotters,
the US government arrested those that had exposed the plots. None of
the five were armed and the US military admitted at the trial that none
of the 5 anti-terrorist Cuban agents had sought to obtain any sensitive
information.
