Colloquium on Port Cities Begins on Wednesday

Havana, Oct 3 (acn) The 2nd International Colloquium "Port Cities of
the Atlantic World: Centuries 16-21" begins on Wednesday in Havana with
the participation of specialists from ten countries.

Experts from Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, Honduras,
Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Cuba will exchange ideas and
experiences until next Friday at the Aldama Palace, the venue of the
Cuban History Institute in Old Havana, which organized the meeting.

Discussions will be focused on the city of Havana and its accelerated
process of development while participants will also analyze the
military-strategic importance of ports.

They will also assess the socio-economic impact of the new maritime and
commercial routes whose origin was in Havana, the main stop for those
who arrived at or left the once-called New World.

Participants will also deal with topics such as society, urbanization
and culture in port cities, commerce and the implementation of
technologies there.

The first colloquium on port cities was held in Havana in April, 2004.
