Cuba's FM in New York for UN Victory

United Nations, Oct 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe
Perez Roque is to start a full working program at UN Monday, on the eve
of the annual debate at the General Assembly against the US-imposed
economic blockade to that Caribbean island.

His agenda includes a meeting with the UN General Assembly President,
former Macedonian Foreign Minister Srgjan Kerim, as well as diplomatic
consultations with state members.

According to the UN program, the General Assembly will meet October 30
to vote on a resolution entitled "The Necessity to Put an End to the
Economic, Financial and Commercial Blockade Imposed by the United
States on Cuba."

That resolution has circulated for days among the 192 UN country
members, and its world support is expected by Cuban authorities in an
overwhelming victory.

The document is supported in an annual report by UN Secretary General
Ban Ki-Moon, which includes disagreement with that measure expressed by
over 120 countries and institutions, a record figure compared with the
98 registered in 2006.

Since 1992 the General Assembly has supported that resolution , which
last year got 183 votes for, four against and one abstention.

Cuban diplomatic sources hope the resolution will receive this time for
16 consecutive years more rousing support from the world community.
