Latin America in a Defining Moment" - Alarcon

Quito, Oct 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Parliament President Ricardo
Alarcon said in this capital Monday that Latin America is in a defining
moment of its history, because it advances toward a new phase, the
socialism of the 21st century.

"Latin Americans will achieve the construction of the socialism of the
21st century," Alarcon told Prensa Latina.

The island's top legislator warned this does not mean the imposition of
a single model and recalled that Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa
said "every people and country will have a socialism tailored to its
own traditions and characteristics."

The Cuban parliamentarian highlighted that Ecuador is an example of
this, because the country achieved important victories in the last few
months, and one after another has been demonstrating increasing unity
and convergence about a project led by Correa.

"If it were not for the resistance of the Cuban people, we would not
have stepped forward, but we also need the solidarity with Venezuela,
Bolivia, Nicaragua and Ecuador," he noted.

As an example, Alarcon indicated that Sandinismo returned to power as
an expression of the popular success Latin America is living, "and now
we have to help Nicaragua and make efforts to get ahead."
