Guatemala: Colom Regains Lead Ahead of Run-off Next Sunday

Guatemala, Oct 29 (Prensa Latina) The candidate of Unidad Nacional de
la Esperanza (UNE) to the Guatemalan presidency Alvaro Colom headed the
intention of votes with four points over the retired general Otto Perez
Molina.

The poll by Borge and Associate Firm for El Periodico newspaper gave
the Social Democratic candidate 39.4 percent of the votes and his
opponent from the Patriot Party (PP) 35.1 percent.

The sampling was done between October 20 and 25 and 1008 voters were
interviewed in the entire national territory.

The same exercise done with simulated ballots places the UNE candidate
in the leading position with 39.4 percent of support and Perez Molina
second with 36.6.

Colom won the first round of September 9 elections, dropped in
subsequent polls and now has first place again.

In the last few weeks the candidate has gained ground during his visit
to popular markets, assembly plants and poor towns of the border of the
capital.

The second round will take place on Sunday.
