Czech Republic-US Missile "Shield" Talks Continue

Prague, Oct 30 (Prensa Latina) Czech and US experts continued
negotiations to settle down in this Central European country a tracking
station of the US anti-missile system.

More than the 60 percent of the Czech population rejects that
installment and about 400 mayors and pacifists from five European
countries and from Japan participated in an international lecture given
on October 21 in this capital in opposition to the installation of that
base.

During this third round of discussions, to extend until Thursday, both
sides will only debate about technical and legal aspects of the
installation and the presence of US civil and military personnel, who
will be operating in the tracking station installment.

US plans to set up a long-range tracking station in the surrounding
areas of Misov, in the military polygon of Brdy, about 37 miles south
west Prague.

The equipment will be the same the Pentagon uses in Marshall Islands,
in the South Pacific, to track the proof shots of the controverted
system - five out of 11 have failed, which are made from the current
bases in Alaska and California.

Czech tracking station will be complemented with 11 interceptor
missiles located in Poland. The system will be installed by 2011 and
will be fully working by 2013.

The installation is justified by Washington with the argument that it
will resist possible attacks with weapons of mass destruction of
nuclear chemical or bacteriological character. Russia rejects it,
considering it is dangerous for their safety.
