International Workshop on Political Science Begins in Havana

Havana, Nov 22 (acn) The Tenth International Workshop on Political
Science began on Wednesday in Havana aiming at discussing researches to
design a new science from the political realities of the South.

The meeting coincides with the 25th anniversary of the creation of the
Cuban Society of Philosophical Research, an organization that groups
sociologists, philosophers, environmentalists, experts on bioethics,
doctors and other scientists.

"This non governmental organization has the thinking of Karl Marx,
Frederic Engels, Vladimir I. Lenin and Fidel Castro at its core," said
Thalia Fung, president of the Society and emeritus professor at the
University of Havana, where the event is taking place.

For three days, academics from 15 countries are discussing several
topics related to philosophy and will analyze processes and global
political cultures.

The event is being attended by delegates from countries such as Brazil,
Chile, Peru, Mexico, Spain, Palestine and the United States.

In the opening day of the meeting, a researcher from the Ñico Lopez
Superior School of the Cuban Communist Party, Vilma Martinez, gave a
conference on the thinking of Fidel Castro Ruz. During her
intervention, she noted that we all hope for a society where there is
democracy with justice and where we can preserve our national and
cultural identities.

Participants also discussed in the first day of the event the role of
the social policies in the electoral victory of Inacio Lula da Silva in
Brazil.

Iedo Leite Fontes, from the Workers' Party of Brazil, said that the
Party crisis in his country is the result of the neo-liberal chaos in
Latin America.
