Canadian Solidarity Group Visits Cuba

CIENFUEGOS, Nov 22 (acn) "We are overcoming many barriers to make known 
the case of the Cuban Five in our country as well as rallying support 
for the island," said Evelyn Gervan, president of the Canada-Cuba 
Friendship Association in the city of Kingston, Ontario.

The Canadian activist heads a delegation from the organization visiting 
the south-central city of Cienfuegos, a sister city with Kingston as of 
three years ago, reported Granma newspaper.

"Our group is very broad based, with diverse interests that run from 
culture to politics, to environmental activism," noted Evelyn Gervan.

The group has visited several social projects, including a 
Grandparents' Club in the Reina neighborhood and the 50 Aniversario 
Park, inaugurated as part of the program marking a half century since 
the popular uprising against the Batista dictatorship on September 5, 
1957.

The Canadians toured a care home for the elderly where they learned of 
the services provided to the residents. They also showed interest in 
collaboration in the treatment and recycling of solid wastes.
