[For this we have Homeland Hysteria hassling boaters and freaking out
about Osama, when it seems Osama could pick any US Coast he likes, if
he chose, to cause chaos in the US. They are so busy creating their own
brand of Nazi criminal mischief that the US Coast Guard and Homeland
Insecurity cannot deal with hurricanes, wildfires, refinery or oil-pipe
leaks, shipping accidents or this -- a "mystery" oil spill probably
caused by some tanker dumping an oil-filled bilge, or perhaps the
break-up of a submerged wreck with a LARGE amount of oil surfacing
and being washed ashore by high winds. From Alaska to San
Francisco to the Gulf of Mexico to Long Island, the "homeland" is
completely unguarded and disregarded -- while the Bush Reich criminals
and liars wage their wars and collect their mega-graft and round people
up for illegal arrests, kidnapping, detention, torture and murder.

The local nooz gave this story about 20 seconds. Then it was on to the
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and a long segment on which stores are
opening at 7, 6, 5, and even 4 a.m. for the desperate retailing season.
And which stores are already open at 11:00 p.m. Thanksgiving night,
starting their hysterical selling. And this is NEWS? -NY Transfer]

Balls of tar or oil wash up in Long Beach

BY BILL BLEYER

After balls of tarlike oil washed up along three miles of shoreline in
Long Beach and Atlantic Beach Thursday morning, the Coast Guard and
other agencies organized a cleanup while trying to find the source.

"We are working with all the local, state and federal response agencies
to determine the source of the oil spill and to get it cleaned up as
soon as possible to mitigate the spread and environmental impact," said
Lt. Meg Phillips of Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound.

Surfers reported seeing balls of tar or oil on the beach at about 11
a.m., said Coast Guard Petty Officer Annie Berlin. They also reported
they had oil on their wetsuits.

After Coast Guard Station Jones Beach received their call, a Coast
Guard Auxiliary helicopter already in the air responded, as did a Coast
Guard helicopter from Atlantic City and another from Nassau County
police, and they verified the problem on the beach. Berlin said a Coast
Guard patrol boat from Station Jones Beach responded and "they didn't
see or smell anything in the water."

"We still don't know the source of the oil," Berlin said. "It could be
a ship offshore dumping the oil or a ship with a leak."

She said pollution investigators from the Coast Guard Marine Safety
Detachment Coram responded to determine the extent of the damage and
the type of oil.

The Coast Guard is gathering oil samples from all vessels entering and
leaving New York Harbor within the estimated time frame to match the
source of the pollution.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation was at the scene and
a cleanup firm, Calverton-based Miller Environmental, was brought in.

Coast Guard Station Jones Beach and Station Fire Island response boat
crews were standing by to deploy oil containment booms in the nearby
inlets such as Reynolds Channel if needed.
