Alarcon Closes Meeting of Solidarity with Havana

Havana, Nov 23 (acn) The president of the Cuban Parliament, Ricardo
Alarcon, closed on Thursday evening the 14th Meeting of Solidarity with
the Municipalities of Havana that took place for three days at the
Convention Center in the Cuban capital.

Alarcon thanked participants for their solidarity and the love they
have showed for Cuba for many years during which the island has been
submitted to the criminal US financial, trade and economic blockade.

"The Empire has not been able to overthrow the revolutionary government
but it has caused a lot of suffering to the Cuban people for almost
half a century. However, Cuba resists and advances," said the
legislative leader.

He also made reference to a letter sent by participants in the event to
the US Congress dealing with three crucial topics: the case of
international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles; the case of the five
Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who remain unjustly imprisoned in the
United States; and the US blockade of the island.

Regarding Posada Carriles, Alarcon explained Washington's maneuvers not
to judge him as a terrorist - even though he has confessed that he
committed this kind of crimes in the past - but to try him for
migratory fraud.

"Today he is free while the five innocent Cuban heroes received harsh
sentences in spite of the fact that they were neither spying nor using
violence nor carrying weapons in Miami to defend Cuba from terrorist
actions organized and carried out from South Florida," Alarcon stressed.

"Posada, the most infamous terrorist of the hemisphere, is free. The
Five, who have done no evil to anyone and who are constantly denied
their rights, have been in prison for almost ten years," he added.

"The main obstacle is that the American people ignore the arguments
included in this letter to the US Congress and, as it has always
happened, on this occasion the mainstream media will likely remain
silent again," the Cuban official noted.

Also present during the closing session of the event were Cuban Vice
President Jose Ramon Fernandez; Armando Cuellar, president of the
provincial government in Havana; and Paulino Rivero, president of the
central government of the Canary Islands.
