Embassy of Azerbaijan Opens in Havana

Havana, Dec 3 (acn) The Minister for Economic Development of 
Azerbaijan, Heydar Babayev, inaugurated on Saturday the embassy of this 
Euro-Asian country in the municipality of Playa in the Cuban capital.

The ceremony was attended by the Cuban Minister for Foreign Investment 
and Economic Cooperation Marta Lomas.

"Cuba is more than a friend to Azerbaijan because of its constant 
support in the international arena. That is why we have decided to open 
an embassy here, also as a way to express our interest in revitalizing 
our economic relations," said Babayev.

For his part, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Abelardo Moreno greeted the 
delegation from Azerbaijan on behalf of Foreign Minister Felipe Perez 
Roque and noted that the presence in Havana of the diplomats from 
Azerbaijan will contribute to the promotion of bilateral commercial 
ties.

Babayev had arrived in Cuba for an official visit last Thursday 
accompanied by seven deputy ministers.

On Saturday, he met with authorities of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, the 
Ministry of Foreign Trade, the Ministry for Foreign Investment and 
Economic Cooperation and the Ministry of the Basic Industry.

On Friday, they signed a Protocol of the Cuba-Azerbaijan Joint 
Commission for Mutual Cooperation that identifies sectors of common 
interest such as health, sports, education, informationa technologies, 
energy and tourism.
