Twin Attack Hit North Baghdad
Baghdad, Jan 7 (Prensa Latina) A twin bomb attack was carried out
against a government institution, in Adhamiyah neighbourhood, in
northern part of the Iraqi capital, on Monday, leaving ten dead,
including a faction chief.
According to police, at least 16 people were wounded in the attack, but
media said there were 20, most of them seriously.
The twin blast occurred at the headquarters of the Sunni Diwan Waqf, an
entity involved in the preservation of Shrines and mosques of that
Muslim community and which supported the so-called Sahwa militias,
counter insurgency armed commands.
Among the bodies is Colonel Riad al Samarrai, who was the chief of that
paramilitary group in Adhamiyah neighbourhood, said the source.
Also Monday, the US military reported the death of one of its soldiers
in a roadside bomb attack south of the Iraqi capital.
The US release added that another three soldiers were wounded in the
Sunday roadside bomb explosion.
The recent American death is the seventh reported in the first seven
days of 2008.
Washington has lost 3,911 troops since the war against this Arab
country began in March 2003.
