What Really Matters is that Emmanuel is Free, Said Chavez

Havana, Jan 7 (acn) "Beyond any political stance or diatribe, what 
really matters is that Emmanuel is free. That's the most important 
thing," said Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Sunday as quoted by 
the Bolivarian News agency ABN.

Recently, DNA tests performed at the request of the Colombian 
government on a boy who was under custody in a state-run orphanage, 
showed that this boy is indeed Emmanuel, the son of former vice 
presidential candidate Clara Rojas and allegedly one of the three 
hostages to be released by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia 
(FARC).

The humanitarian mission to free the hostages, which Chavez called 
"Operation Transparency", changed course when on New Year's Eve 
Colombian President Alvaro Uribe said that Emmanuel was already in the  
capital and not with the guerrilla forces.

Nevertheless, Chavez said that he is waiting for a new contact with the 
FARC to set the terms for the release of Clara Rojas and former 
legislator Consuelo Gonzalez de Perdomo.
