Carlos Lage Meets with Visiting Indian Delegation

Havana, Jan 8 (acn) Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage Davila met on
Monday with a delegation from the Lower Chamber of India headed by
Somnath Chatterjee, president of this legislative body.

Chatterjee thanked Lage for all the attention they have received since
their arrival in Cuba, where they will stay until next Thursday.

The visitor said he felt as if he were among old friends and added that
he hoped relations would strengthen even more between Cuba and India.
He also explained that his delegation includes members of all the
parties represented in the Indian Parliament.

Chatterjee noted that his country, the second most populated in the
world with some 1.2 billion inhabitants, has a Parliament with 545
members in its Lower Chamber or Chamber of the People while the Higher
Chamber of Council of State has 250 members.

The visiting delegation was also received by the President of the Cuban
National Assembly (Parliament), Ricardo Alarcon, on Monday morning.

The agenda of the Indian parliamentarians includes meetings with
Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque and with Fernando Remirez de
Estenoz, head of the Foreign Relations Department at the Cetral
Committee of Cuba's Communist Party.

They will also visit places of social, scientific and historic interest
like the Center for Immuno-Trials, the Superior School for the Training
of Athletes, the Latin American School of Medicine and Old Havana.
